Bhava · the practice of Nothing feels good

Effort first, then staying

Full effort, and in the rest after it one task only: find what feels good, and stay with it.

By day

1

The fifth group · Daring

The most steps of the nine, on both legs. Do it fully. Or the gross practices of phase one, or the hardest group you have reached.

Begin the group · Laya
2

The rest · Śaśāṅkāsana

Sit back on the heels, the forehead on the ground, the arms forward. Or makarāsana, on the front with the head on the hands; or śavāsana.

Something in the body feels good now: warmth, the breath slowing, the floor taking the weight. Find it. Stay with it. Let it be as large as it is.

Until the breath and the heartbeat have come down, and then a little longer. Makarāsana not straight after food.

Why this order

Exercise releases the brain's own opioids, and euphoria rose as receptor binding fell. In people on opioids, practice in savouring restored the brain's response to natural reward.

Before you begin

Stay well within what is comfortable. If anything hurts, stop. This supports treatment and does not replace it; anybody on buprenorphine or methadone stays on it.

While opium is still being taken, keep every breath hold short.
