The idea beneath the practice

Becoming Jyotirgana

Why we stopped treating people as patients and started training them as protectors.

Training

Start with yourself.

This wing is for one person, sitting alone, before any camp and before any mat. Everything here is open, and none of it asks anything of you except that you read one line and stay with it.

Every door here opens three times

Śravaṇa · Manana · Nididhyāsana
Śravaṇayou are told it, one thought at a time
Mananayou turn it over until you have argued with it
Nididhyāsanayou live inside it until it is no longer something you know
Painted cakes do not satisfy hunger.

Ram Dass put his reading list at the very back of Be Here Now and gave it that title, and the rule holds here. These doors are worth opening, and opening them is not the training. The training is on the mat and in the breath, and it is one click away from every page of this wing.

The doors of भूमि

01What was actually happening in you

It was not weakness, and it is not an illness you now carry for life. One thing went in very deep, and deep things go in exactly the way a skill goes in.

02Why it worked

Not that it felt like it was helping. It was helping. And nothing can be put in its place until the thing it was doing has a name.

03What the body is doing now

What feels shapeless and endless has in fact a sequence, a peak and an end. A thing with a map on it stops being as large as it was.

04The flat weeks, and what they are for

The flatness that comes after the sweating stops is not damage finally becoming visible. It is a system that was being run from outside learning to run from inside again.

05Going back, and what it is telling you

Among people who put this behind them, the middle man needed two serious attempts. A man who has gone back twice is not a failure. He is the median.

The doors of साधन

01The moment, and the shape of it

A craving is not a condition a man is stuck in. It has a shape: it rises, it peaks, and it comes down of its own accord. A man who knows that shape is doing something else while it happens.

02The part that runs without asking

What is repeated enough moves out of the deliberating part and into the part that runs on its own. Which is why deciding does not work: a decision never reaches that part. But there are places where the loop can be entered, and they can be named.

03One thing, every morning

There is one known way of putting something in, and it is the way the first thing went in. Repetition. And there is one fact about it nobody has told you: a day missed in the middle breaks nothing.

04The force, and where to put it

Push a thought away and it grows. That has been measured. And in the men who changed in jail, the thing that actually changed was that they stopped pushing. So the force goes somewhere else, and this door says where.

The doors of अधिकार

01What the law actually says about you

Inside the very law people are afraid of, there is a section which says that a man who comes forward for treatment himself is not to be prosecuted. It has been written down since 1989. Most people have never heard of it.

02What is already free

The mental health law says access to treatment is every person's right, and that for a man below the poverty line or destitute or homeless it is entirely free at Government establishments, card or no card. This is not something to be requested. It is something written down.

03Where to go, and what to say

Knowing a right is one thing; standing at a counter and saying it is another. This door gives the order, the words, and what to do if you are turned back.

04The man who does not ask

Everything named in this movement so far is true and all of it exists. Most people still do not go. This door is about that, and it puts the most direct question in the whole wing.

The doors of मोड़

01The question nobody asks

Everybody asks you one question: will you take it again. Nobody asks the other one, and the other one is the real one. A life built only out of not doing something has a ceiling, and the ceiling is low.

02Running from, and walking toward

Running has one particular fault, and it is the dangerous one: the further you get, the less you run. The fear was the fuel and distance uses it up. Which is why people stop at exactly the point where they begin to feel better.

03The one who teaches

The sixth phase of this module is that you turn round and teach the man who arrived after you. It is not a ceremony added at the end. The other five exist to make it possible, and your years are the qualification for it.

04The one that never stops

There is no finishing line here. That sounds like bad news and it is the opposite. A finishing line means there is nothing to do after it. This door leaves the whole wing on its real subject, and the subject was never the drug.

All four movements are open. Nothing in this wing is behind a payment, nothing in it is kept, and none of it needs a signal once the site is on your phone.

When the reading stops and the doing starts → the six phases, and two of them open
And when it is no longer only about you → taking it to the family, the village and the district
